THE NOTE IN THE FRONT OF THE BOOK

About Hollow Atlas

This is a small horror archive built for wandering. Regional folklore sits beside internet fiction and stories written for this site. The labels matter. We do not turn an author's invention into a village tradition, or a ghost story into a verified event.

The first collection is intentionally small. Each entry needs a source, a reason to be here and an honest account of what you are about to read. Dark colours are easy. A good story takes more care.

Sources & rights

Collected folklore and internet stories have original editorial field notes here. The complete texts stay at their credited sources. Public access does not give us permission to reproduce a whole story. We do not claim a new translation or edition is free to reuse just because the underlying tale is old.

Each field note records its author or collector, geographic attribution, source links and rights status. Historical English-language collections are a particular writer's account, sometimes filtered through colonial assumptions. They cannot speak for every living tradition in a region.

Fear tags and reading trails are editorial judgments, not measured scariness scores. We have not invented engagement numbers, reader reactions or village coordinates. Reading times describe the text on this site, not the complete work at an external source.

Original fiction

Stories labelled Original fiction were written for Hollow Atlas with AI assistance and edited using the installed Humanizer guidance. They are invented. They are not recovered documents, witness accounts or collected folklore.

The pixel landscapes are original illustrations made for this archive. Their houses and figures do not document real locations or events. Typography uses self-hosted Silkscreen and Newsreader under their respective SIL Open Font Licenses. Font files and licence notices ship with the project.

Your privacy

Saved stories, text size and reading progress stay in this browser's local storage. They do not sync between devices. We do not run a login system, behavioural analytics, advertising pixels or a runtime AI API. Cloudflare serves the static site and may process normal network and security information. External sources follow their own privacy policies.

If your browser blocks storage, the site tells you. Clearing browser data removes your saved collection. The clear button in Saved removes saved entries after confirmation but keeps reading progress.

Reading without the theatre

The paragraphs use a readable serif face. Pixel type stays in the navigation and headings. There is no autoplay, forced sound, flashing sequence or jumpscare. Reduced-motion preferences are respected. Content notes are available before each story.

Corrections & permissions

Maintained by vuxxmech. An attribution correction or rights request should identify the entry title and its supporting source. A linked work can disappear or change; the field note is not a promise that an external site will remain available.
